ISA approved Powerboat Training with OceanAddicts in Kinsale
If you own, or regularly cox a power boat with a sailing or diving clubs or for other water activities, why not develop your boating skills. Oceanaddicts are an approved ISA (Irish Sailing Association is the National Governing Body for Sailing and Motor Boating in Ireland) Power Boat Centre based in Kinsale Co Cork. We can offer powerboat training from the complete beginner to the experienced. All our boats have a commercial license and are equipped with all necessary safety equipment. Our experienced instructor will ensure that learning takes place in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere. The maximum number of candidates on each course is three. We do not offer Powerboat courses to people under 16 years old. It is illegal, under Irish Law, for anyone under the age of 16 to be in charge of a powerboat capable of speeds of 17 knots or more.
Introduction to Power Boating (Level 1)
The aim of this course is to provide a short practical introduction to boat handling and safety on powerboats being used on all Irish waters. No previous knowledge of power boating is required or assumed. Assessment is continuous throughout the course. This course will suit someone who will be crewing on a powerboat.
National Powerboat Certificate (Level 2)
The “driving license” of power boating. This course provides all of the skills and knowledge required by anyone taking charge of a powerboat. On the course you will learn about Boat preparation, launch & recovery, low & high speed manouvres, anchoring & docking, basic navigation, weather & coastal knowledge, safety. On completing the course you will be competent to take charge of an open powerboat by day on inland and coastal waters with which you are familiar.
National Powerboat Certificate Direct Assessment
A 1 day assessment for experienced skippers with minimum of at least one full season of helming powerboats. The assessment can be conducted either in our training vessel or in your own boat. The assessment consists of boat handling skills assessment as well as background knowledge assessment included in the national Powerboat Certificate syllabus.
Advanced Power Boat Certificate
This is the top of the powerboat scheme ladder. This course develops boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to drive a planing powerboat safely by day in all coastal waters and by night in coastal waters with which you are familiar. During the course you’ll cover the skills such as – advanced boat handling at high speed, passage planning and passage making by day and night, emergency situations including search patterns. Candidates must hold an ISA National Powerboat Certificate (or an equivalent) and a navigational knowledge of Day Skipper level.
Coastal Navigation for Small Boats
This is a theory course that will provide candidates with skills and knowledge to safely navigate a boat, by day and night, in waters with which they are familiar. The course is intended as a preparation for the Advanced Powerboat Certificate. Main topics covered by the course syllabus are: weather, navigation (including electronic navigation), tides (heights and streams), rules of the road and safety.
